The Games

Compete on the Reef

The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games was first held in Cairns, Queensland in 2013, and has since been held every second year. The 2019 were our biggest and best yet, and we now look forward to the fifth installment to be held from 20 to 23 May 2021. Cairns is the ideal location to host the Games, being one of Australia's most popular holiday destinations with a myriad of local attractions, dining, adventure sports, reef activities and entertainment within close proximity to the city centre.

2,000 masters-aged men and women from Australia, Oceania, USA, UK and South East Asia are anticipated to compete in 22 individual and team sports across the four days of competition with sports for all masters ages and interests. Registration fees include a $88 Games fee, plus a sport fee per event. It is free for spectators to be able to watch all of the sports on offer.

Included in the registration fee is the highly anticipated social program held over three fantastic nights in the CBD, with themed parties every night.

Congratulations to Bill Blaikie who won our trip for 2 to Moore Reef thanks to Sunlover Reef Cruises, including a 10 minute scenic helicopter ride with Nautilus Aviation. Bill simply registered for the 2019 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games before the end of 2018.
